Introduction | Sodium alginate is a by-product of the extraction of iodine and mannitol from kelp or sargasso of brown algae, and its molecule is composed of β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-Gullo. The uronic acid (α-L-guluronic, G) is a (1→4) bond. It is a natural polysaccharide with the stability, solubility, viscosity and safety required for pharmaceutical preparations. Sodium alginate has been widely used in the food industry and medicine. |
Application |
In the food industry, Sodium Alginate has the functions of stabilization, hydration, thickening and emulsification. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as dental impression material, ointment, tablets and their preparation, and hemostat. In agriculture, Sodium Alginate can be used as seed treatment, insecticides and anti-viral materials. It also can be used in resin coating, rubber cream agent, water treatment and so on. |
