The mechanism of action of thiacloprid differs from that of other traditional insecticides. It primarily targets the postsynaptic membrane of insect nerve junctions; by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, it disrupts normal neurotransmission within the insect's nervous system. This leads to the blockage of neural pathways and the massive accumulation of acetylcholine, thereby causing abnormal excitation, systemic spasms, and paralysis in the insect, ultimately resulting in death. Thiacloprid exhibits potent systemic, contact, and stomach toxicity effects. Furthermore, it demonstrates no cross-resistance with conventional insecticides-such as pyrethroids, organophosphates, and carbamates-making it a valuable tool for resistance management.
